  Beware there is at least one company that advertises on TV that they can get your prescriptions for free but when I called their phone number I was told that their is a charge of $59 and an application to fill out but all they do is sign you up for free prescription programs. But you can save that money and just apply yourself for the free prescription programs, you can find them below:

PARTNERSHIP FOR PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE: helps qualifying patients without prescription drug coverage get the medicines they need through the program that is right for them. Many will get their medications free or nearly free.  This is a non-profit clearing house founded by Montel Williams which assists in finding resources for the uninsured and those below certain income levels.  They have an 800 number where you can speak to a counselor who will help you to get in touch with various programs: www.pparx.org 

Even with prescription coverage a person can still become eligible under a financial hardship or other exceptions, I have received a letter of denial from one of these programs (based on having prescription coverage which partially pays for my brand name medications) but it gives a person the right to appeal and under that appeal I was approved under financial hardship and also these plans do not affect your prescription drug insurance plan, I know other people who have prescription drug coverage and still were approved.

In the small town I live in, Fountain Inn, there are 5 churches not far from me that do, one once a week and the other one day each month. They give out rice, powder milk, bread, eggs, juice and canned goods. I rarely have to buy groceries. If you are outside the area you should be able to track down similar organizations, start by asking your local food bank distributor or churches.
